The Workshop PDF Print E-mail
We write in a safe, respectful environment where writing can develop as your art. Writers are invited to:
  • Write in response to exercises provided during workshop
  • Read to each other what we have written, when we choose to do so
  • Respond to one another’s writing emphasizing what is strong and what we remember
  • Trust and appreciate our unique voices and strengths as writers
workshopgroup

We meet together for three hours. During that time, there are two writing, reading and response periods with a break for refreshments.

Workshop meetings begin with a free-write so that we transition from the busy-ness of daily life and open ourselves to the flow of words.

We write in response to prompts provided by the workshop leader. Each writer is invited to read newly composed work. You may read or not as seems preferable. There is no pressure. We listen deeply to one another and respond by indicating what we remember, what stays with us. We do not critique brand new writing.

Through reading, listening deeply and responding honestly, we create a community of writers who learn from one another. Writing in the company of male and female writers of all genres, levels of experience, ages, racial and ethnic backgrounds, socio-economic status,  sexual orientations, and belief or non-belief systems creates an experience that enriches and deepens our understanding of human nature.  As a result, we grow as writers.

Fall Mohonk Writers Retreat CHANGED PDF Print E-mail

Saturday, October 9, and Sunday October 10, 2010 hasbeen postponed to spring due to illness.

On Oct. 9th Kate and I will host a Write Saturday here. Same workshop, no Mohonk, but it will be at my house, which isn't shabby, and we will add fun things, like a Fri evening or Saturday evening dinner somewhere. If anyone wants to book a room at Mohonk or at any local place? or stay at my place, Holly's? Jeremiah's? perhaps we can work that out, too.

If you want to confirm for that Write Saturday, contact Kate: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Write Saturdays - Fall 2010

October 9, New Paltz

Other dates will be posted as Write Saturdays are scheduled.

Write Saturdays are full-day (6 hour) writing workshops. Write Saturdays are led according to the same guidelines as Wallkill Valley Writers Weekly Workshop series. The full day provides writers extended writing and response time.

Extended time allows writers to explore subject matter and content deeply, to move beyond first thoughts. We strive to find within ourselves the dreaming place described by Pat Schneider, Writing Alone and with Others, where the unconsious is engaged and writing is without effort.

Write Saturdays do not include manuscript critiques.
