Weekly Workshop Series A workshop series lasts for eight or ten weeks. Writers gain the most benefit from workshops when they attend regularly. Writing improves by writing frequently. Many writers value participating in a workshop as a part of their writing practice.
If you can only attend sporadically, you are advised to delay enrollment until such time as you can attend regularly. Also, you are asked to provide advance notice if you must withdraw.
Write Saturdays A full day. six (6) hour, writing retreat. The writing retreat follows the format described above in the Workshop Meeting. The full day gives writers extended writing and response times. A Write Saturday is a great way to experience for the first time a Wallkill Valley Writers workshop. Writers who can not commit to weekly workshop meetings, also find the Write Saturdays to be a valued alternative.
Interested groups or individuals can contact WVW to schedule one day retreats to meet specific needs fordate and time, location, and writing focus, such as: emphasizing a particular genre, e.g. poetry, memoir, fiction;a theme, e.g. women's issues, religious or spiritual practice.
Three Day Retreats For writers who seek time away from life’s intrusions to pursue their passion and art, Wallkill Valley Writers offers a weekend devoted to new writing. Writers are given sufficient time to remember and imagine stories fully. We write together as a community of writers who encourage one another while providing honest critical response.
.Writing Retreat includes extended writing and response periods, time for discussion of writing practice and craft, and private consultations or manuscript reviews, if desired.
If We Are Sisters: Black and White Women Write Across Race A once a year writing retreat led by Pat Schneider, Founder and Director, Amerhst Writers and Artists, and Kate Hymes, Wallkill Valley Writers. This retreat invites you to write and share your stories about race as you have personally lived it. Using the Amherst Writers and Artists method developed by Pat Schnieder, every woman can write openly, honestly and safely. Writing exercises will lead you to self-exploration of memory and experience. This retreat brings women together as if at a kitchen table to tell life stories, laugh, cry and ultimately embrace one another as sisters.
Individual Conferences Private conferences can be scheduled with Kate Hymes to review manuscripts, discuss writing practice and craft.
